Match Reports: From the Irish Times (Thanks to Steve Bell for Report)

Pre-game Report:

"The Leinster League side to meet Leeds United at Dalymount Park tonight (Wednesday) includes two of the Irish team defeated 1-0 by Argentina on Sunday. Peter Farrell and Tommy Eglington, now with Everton, should strengthen the side, and, if the Leinster fulls, Haughey (Shelbourne) and Snell (Drumcondra), can hold off the Leeds sharp shooters, then Neville, in goal, need not worry too much."

"The English footballers are masters of ball control and, on a hard surface, with the ball bouncing, may make the most of the home side's weaknesses in this department. The Leinster inside forwards Cunningham, Cassidy and Gibbons, will have a difficult job, but if they geta good service and can keep the ball on the ground Leinster may make amends for the defeat by Lanarkshire recently."

Post-game Match Report:

"The Leinster team should show a little more consideration for the public. When they played the Lanarkshire League recently no programme was issued and the lapse was repeated at Dalymount Park last night, when they took on Leeds United. on this occasion the omission was even more regrettable, for one of Leeds players is John Charles, who, in spite of his tender yearsis regarded as one of the greatest centre-halves in English Football."

"It was reported that Charles would play last evening, and, as no programme was on sale, and as Charles has never played in Dublin, the spectators could be forgiven for thinking that the Leeds centre-half (he was Kirk, incidentally) was the same Charles."

"Charles, in fact, was assisting Wales against Switzerland yesterday."

"Otherwise Leeds were at full strength and they were deserved winners of a game which had its good or bad moments, but Leeds were not a two goal better team and two of their scores might not have occurred at all but for errors by Referee S. Boland, who had a most unhappy match."

"The Leinster League lost Coffey through injury ten minutes after the start. He returned three minutes later, but went off again within a couple of minutes. He came back on again after three minutes but went off for good at half-time. O'Reilly (Dundalk) came on as his substitute five minutes after the interval."

"Palmer and Eglington were about the best of the Leinster League team and Searson, Milburn, Burden and Williams attracted most for the visitors."

"Browning got Leeds first goal, just after Coffey went off for the first time, and Cassidy put the Leinster League on level terms just before O'Reilly came on as substitute. Hughes (2) and Browning added further goals for Leeds before Farrell, following a brilliant move between Palmer and Gibbons, tore through the Leeds defence for the best score of the match two minutes from the end."
